Overview
A domain “connects” to hosting through DNS. There are two safe standard approaches:
1) Change nameservers
2) Keep existing nameservers and update DNS records (A/CNAME)
Method 1: Change nameservers (simple)
What it means
- You tell the registrar to use Dprime Hosting’s nameservers.
- DNS management is then done wherever those nameservers are hosted.
When to use it
- You want the easiest path.
- You do not need Cloudflare features.
- You want hosting + DNS managed together for easier support.
How to do it
1) Find the nameservers provided in your WHMCS service details.
2) Log in to your domain registrar.
3) Replace existing nameservers with the provided ones.
4) Save and wait for propagation.
Method 2: Update DNS records (A/CNAME) (common with Cloudflare)
What it means
- You keep DNS hosted where it currently is (often Cloudflare).
- You change specific records to point the website to your hosting.
Typical records
- @ (root) A record → hosting server IP
- www CNAME → @
When to use it
- You already use Cloudflare and want to keep it.
- You have custom DNS policies.
- You have email hosted elsewhere and want minimal disruption.
Email warning (important)
If you host email on cPanel, you must ensure:
- MX records point to the correct mail server
If you host email on Google/Microsoft, keep their MX records.
Propagation timing
DNS changes can take minutes to 24–48 hours. Many changes appear quickly, but you should plan for delay.
Troubleshooting symptoms
- Website shows old site: DNS still pointing to old IP (or cached).
- SSL will not issue: domain still not pointing correctly.
- Email stopped receiving: MX records changed or missing.
If you want support to confirm DNS safely
Provide in your ticket:
- Domain name
- DNS provider (registrar vs Cloudflare)
- Where you want email hosted (cPanel vs third party)
